Class Description:
Join us as we will dive into basic printmaking materials and techniques. Beth Borsato has a wonderfully positive energy and she will guide you beyond your creative hurdles in this fun and engaging class. This class is perfect for beginners, but if you have done any printmaking before, you will have lots of time for practice, experimenting, and exploring a wide range of materials and supplies.
Week 1 – Monoprints
In this first class we will gain familiarity with the process and materials with possibly the simplest printing method, monoprints! Using a variety of paints, organic materials and textures, we will be exploring the endless possibilities of this technique; creating both stand alone works as well as material for future projects.
Week 2 – Lino cut
In this edition (see what I did there?), Lino cuts! Lino cuts can be a little intimidating to get started, but with a little guidance the sky is the limit! In this class we will be introduced to the basic materials, the process, and the safety involved in creating unique multi-toned prints. Lino cuts can be used to create an edition of art prints or simply stamps to create texture and pattern for future works and projects.
Week 3 – Collagraph
Today will be the first day in developing a true edition of prints. The opposite in some ways to the Lino block print – instead of cutting away from our surface, we will be building it up! Texture and pattern will add a depth to these prints that yields stunning results.
Week 4 – Tying it all together
Now that our collagraph plates have dried, it is time to print! We will be discussing the rules of thumb around creating an edition of prints, and going over both printing process and etiquette. Today is the day to finish printing and complete any unfinished work.
