Observational drawing is essential for learning how to draw; for connecting the eye, the mind and the hand. Observational drawing is seeing in an active and engaged way that hones
There can be no more compelling subject than the human figure.
In this five week class, we learn the fundamentals of observational drawing. In the first two classes we will review how to measure angles and proportions. In the third to fifth classes we work from nude models and follow the standard format of most life drawing sessions. Emphasis will not be on pretty pictures and likenesses, but the artful description of perceived form. By the end of the class you will have a grasp of the skills required for continued practice at open life drawing sessions, as well as the confidence to attend them regularly.
