Acrylic Painting 2 – Value, Contrast, and Rembrandt

Class Description:

In this session we will focus in the use of value and contrast in painting while using Rembrandt’s work to guide us.

In the first class we will look at value and its importance in painting. We will examine not only Rembrandt’s, but other artists paintings to see how they have utilized value to describe form and add intensity to images. We will then create our own paintings that focus on using value.

During the second class, we delve into contrast and explore how different artists use this principle in their paintings. We will then do a painting project that focuses on the use of contrast.

For the third class, we look at a few of Rembrandt’s iconic works and students will have the opportunity to learn his techniques while replicating one of his paintings.

In the last two classes, students will bring in their own reference image and we will go over composition, colour choice, editing and image transfer. Students will have the opportunity to work on this painting for a total of 4 hours.

Note – Students that have taken this class with Jess before know that we do NEW projects every session, so you won’t get bored taking this class multiple times!
